Becoming a Golden Goddess
Becoming a Golden Goddess
On my stay at Villa Jewel Resort my goal was to become a golden goddess. Soak up as much of that Jamaican sunshine as possible. Be warned, becoming a golden goddess is not for everyone, nor can everyone become one. Here’s how I do it!
First, don’t shame me for still worshiping the sun. I am the person who doesn’t have anything with a +45 or +60 in her beach bag. Unless, of course, my passport is in there!
The best time of the day is early morning. I go alone and sit on the rock pad by the sparkling Caribbean Sea. The sun is not hot yet and the warm sea breeze feels blissful. I get to watch Jamaica wake up. I watch the local fishermen in their wooden canoes head out to check their lobster traps. I wave to the guys going by on motorcycle to go work in their fields. I am frequently joined by a Rasta man throwing his lines to catch his lunch and dinner. Be wary of guests coming with chairs and coffee cups. They want to talk! This is quiet time. Do not make eye contact and angle your chair for the best sun. Let them sit close to the edge where a rogue wave can catch them.
It’s magical on the rocks in the morning. So peaceful and relaxing. This is my fave spot for my morning coffee. The perfect spot to regain your inner peace. The sounds of the waves roll in and out sets your body into a perfect rhythm. I’m pretty sure that these waves bring in good karma. Then these same waves take away all negativity and unhappy thoughts out to sea, never to be felt again. And, no talking. Just coffee, sunshine, waves, sea breezes and a panoramic view of the turquoise sea.
Speaking of the sea, did I ever tell you how it sparkles. I’m all about sparkles. When that sun is shining high up in the Jamaican sky, the Caribbean Sea sparkles like a 9-carat diamond. Oh, baby! Looks like little diamonds on the top of ever wave. Spectacular, unremarkable, enchanting- like a sparkle factory. You know how much I like sparkles! I have not been able to capture it in a photo. You have to be here. You’ll understand.
Sometimes the most unexpected things happen while I’m becoming a golden goddess. Like the time when the dolphins were checking the lobster traps for the fishermen. One dolphin would bring the trap up out of the water and carry it about and shake it. The other dolphins were down below counting how many fish fell out of the trap. Watched it with my own eyes. You just never know what magic will appear.
Then there was the time I caught lobster out here sitting on the rock pad. No fooling. There I was enjoying the morning when a local fishermen named Silan drove right up to the pad. He said he had something for me. So his helper Peter threw a sack up to me and I caught it. It was half full of lobster. I caught lobster that morning! Everyone ate lobster that night; the lobster I caught.
If you still disagree with me becoming a golden goddess, or back in the day we called it tanning, it’s not so much about the sun being evil. It’s more about enjoying these special moments under the sun in the fresh air by the sea and finding your spirit again. Reconnecting with your inner goddess is what it’s all about. The tan is optional.
