Inspiration for Naming the Rooms
When you open up a Resort, do you number your rooms or do you name them? Villa Jewel Resort is a boutique resort that has 8 guest rooms. 6 rooms on the upper level and 2 rooms on the lower level. The rooms are numbered and named. Numbered for convenience and named because each room is unique to its location and now its name.
The two rooms on the main level are just feet from the mineral water swimming pool. These rooms begin with the number ‘1’ indicating level 1. Each of these rooms has a nice private veranda overlooking the pool with a great view of the sparkling Caribbean Sea. The 6 rooms on the upper level – all beginning with the number ‘2’ – are large rooms and each room has a unique and different view of the sparkling Caribbean Sea. Each of these rooms has a private balcony, some with wall to wall windows for an excellent unobstructed view.
The naming of the rooms began back home in Alberta. We had hired Kelso & Ashley from ThinkWerx to create a website for us. (They are now Knorth Creative Inc.) They needed information on the rooms and prices, etc, but I did not have names for the rooms yet. We started the website with room numbers and continue to use this system on the website. They thought it would be an excellent idea to name the rooms as there are only 8 rooms. Coming up with eight names shouldn’t be difficult, and it really wasn’t as the rooms seemed to name themselves.
The first room named was #22 – Blue Mountain. While staying in that room, each morning after I woke up I would rush to the window to check out the sunrise and take a few pictures. Looking back on the pictures I always noticed the shaded blue mountains in the background. Room #22 – Blue Mountain.
Room #21 we first called it Big Poo’s room because he was the first one to stay in that room. When you look out the window in that room you get the most fantastic view of the sunset. Room #21 – Setting Sun.
I knew I had left Ralston with paint for the rooms and room 25 was being painted a coral color. Being a mango fanatic – I LOVE MANGO – and a coral colored room – how about Sweet Mango. Room #25 – Sweet Mango.
Standing in room #26 I spotted dolphins. Papa Poo had not spotted dolphins yet and was actually teasing people there were no dolphins in the sea – only because he hadn’t spotted any yet. But #26 has the best view of the coast line and you should be able to sit on the balcony and spot dolphins raiding the fishermen’s traps. Room #26 – Dolphin Point.
During construction Ralston managed to build an additional guest room onto the back of the building. A smaller room then the regular guest rooms but it still has a view of the Caribbean Sea. Papa Poo and I decided we could temporarily use this room as our spa room. This room actually doubles as a guest room. Eventually, when we build a separate SPA building, I will have to rename this room. Room 27 – #27 SPA.
Three rooms left – room 12 was being called the handicap room which is not a great name. It was the last room to be finished. The intent of this room is to allow someone with a wheelchair, a walker or someone who can’t do stairs, a nice guest room that is handicap friendly and wheelchair accessible. Wide doors, level surfaces and plenty of room to get around. Room 12 inspiration came from the many wild orchids that we have growing on our trees. A lot of local people brought me wild orchids when they found out how much I liked them. Room #12 – Wild Orchid.
Room 11 was the first room we stayed in – the room Ralston surprised us with. I always just called it #11 but when it came time to name it I just remembered back to the first time I saw that room. I feel in love with it as soon as I saw it. Room #11 – One Love.
Then there was two. I had originally thought to name the rooms after types of jewels but that didn’t happened so for the final two extra large rooms I went with a woman’s best friend – a diamond and my birthstone – an emerald. Room #23 – Diamond & Room #24 – Emerald.
There we have it.
